Whether we want to achieve success in our careers, improve health or relationships, reach personal goals, live a happy life, or find deep spiritual fulfillment, the key to success lies in our ability to align mind, body, and spirit, with a desired outcome. Simply put, the Law of Attraction states that our thoughts, actions, and feelings manifest as our life experiences. The energy we put out to the universe is directly linked to what we attract. When we are the driving force: anything is possible.

Canadian-born, Bob Proctor is a prime example of how we can change our paradigm. At 26, he found himself without a high-school diploma; he had great difficulty finding a job. With a burning desire to rise beyond his meager beginnings, he took random side jobs. Then Proctor made one bold and fortunate decision that changed his life forever. He moved to Chicago to receive first-hand tutoring with Earl Nightingale. This coaching arrangement was life-changing, and Proctor prospered.

The Law of Attraction, founded on the power of vibration, is a fundamental concept that governs our existence. The twentieth-century German-born physicist Albert Einstein's famous quote, "Everything is energy," illuminates the importance of Einstein's dynamic discovery.

A force of nature
Everything in the universe is energy vibrating at a high or low frequency—people, animals, nature, places, and things carry this unseen yet powerful force. The theory may seem beyond comprehension; however, this is Einstein's most-recognized accomplishment, the equation E = mc2, meaning "the mass of any object, is held together by energy." This equation expands into quantum physics, proving that matter and energy are dynamically one and interchangeable. "Everything is energy."

Who we spend time with matters. Our daily habits are strongly influenced by the people we surround ourselves with. We don’t usually choose our friends for their positive lifestyle habits. However, this bit of information may get you thinking. Behavioral science shows that the five people we spend the most time with can affect our daily habits (for better or worse), a strong indicator of our happiness, health, and well-being.

Friends, family, and coworkers play a critical role in how we see ourselves, our life choices, and even life satisfaction. The bottom line is we naturally gravitate toward and repeat habits that are most familiar to us.

Time to raise the bar.
Similarly, mind-body practices like daily meditation can be a powerful positive influencer. Non-directive meditation sets the tone and helps us naturally navigate toward healthier lifestyle choices. This particular type of meditation activates six brain regions simultaneously (known as the default mode network). Accumulated stress releases from the body, and our innate inner wisdom emerges. We are less driven by others, more self-aware, and aligned with the needs of our body, mind, and spirit. This wisdom guides each choice while collectively defining a healthier lifestyle and a peaceful mind. Only then can we experience a state of flow and synchronicity.

We know that aging is inevitable. Then why do some people appear noticeably younger and healthier than their age? One of the best anti-aging strategies may be meditation. Science cautiously proves the link between meditation and aging well, through the efforts of Elizabeth Blackburn, Nobel Prize-winner and co-author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Telomere Effect.

Telomeres and the science of longevity

In 2009, Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn, the former president of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and a professor of biology and physiology at the University of California in San Francisco, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her study of telomeres. More specifically, Blackburn discovered how science accurately measures our biological clock on aging.

"By the age of 6 the size of the brain increases to about 90% of its volume in adulthood. Then, in our 30's and 40's the brain starts to shrink, with the shrinkage rate increasing even more by the age of 60."

With advancing technology, life seems more complex; we are less balanced and more stressed. Worst of all, we’ve lost sight of caring for our most valuable asset: brain health.

Expectations of the perfect life grow grand, making much of our stress self-induced. We push ourselves toward perfection—and as our needs and desires grow, we find that greater financial, emotional, and physical demands also grow. This path equates to less time to enjoy life and more work. It’s no wonder we feel stressed, exhausted, and unfulfilled.

Non-directive meditation is a powerful tool that reverses the cumulative effect of stress. Meditation will relax and rejuvenate you, and studies report it reduces the risk of Alzheimer's. This article explains how that's possible.

This article includes:
  1. a brief history of meditation in the U.S.
  2. the difference between meditation and mindfulness
  3. the CDC's report on popularity and growth in the U.S.
  4. four user-friendly forms of relaxation
  5. an easy-to-understand reference guide to relaxation
  6. examples of how to easily blend mind-body relaxation into your day
  7. a comparative medical study which defines the advantages of non-directive meditation

1) A brief history

Over 100 years ago, in 1920, Swami Paramahansa Yogananda arrived from India to give his first speech in America. Five years later, he returned to be welcomed by LA’s limelight at the Philharmonic Auditorium. There was hesitation and concern, yet Yogananda felt sure he would be well-received by open minds, and he was right. The people of Los Angeles flocked to see Yogananda speak—not a single seat was vacant. The enthusiastic audience of 3,000 filled the hall to capacity; thousands were turned away.

Life is a Balancing Act

At a very young age, I learned one of life’s toughest lessons: No matter how well life seems to be going, you can count on a few curveballs coming just around the corner.

Most often we are not prepared for life's surprises, then suddenly, we find ourselves knocked off balance. Regaining balance can take more effort than one might expect—and that’s where resilience comes in. I learned one difficult lesson extraordinarily well, the more I focused on self-care the easier it was to regain my balance.

Think of life from an athlete’s perspective. The more consistent the training, the easier the recovery. The primary difference is that you are training for resilience.

Developing resilience naturally.

Balance isn’t something we learn from a best-selling book; it’s cultivated through daily practice. The formula is simple. Take care of the body, mind, and spirit, and you’ll feel balanced and become resilient in the process. Know that cultivating 'self-awareness' is the key ingredient. Awareness allows us to read subtle cues.

DASA Meditation The Secret to Peak Performance

The truth is that you can’t effectively support higher needs in others if you’re not first satisfying them in yourself. —The Cult Branding Company

This month we are pleased to share highlights from a timeless business article we found posted back in 2017 by The Cult Branding Company on personal growth, performance, and self-actualization. This short read is full of wisdom for those who want to advance in the workplace.

Article excerpt: The Cult Branding Company

Maslow’s Simple Secret for High Performing Business

Successful businesses like Southwest, Google, Zappos, The Container Store, and Netflix tap into basic and higher needs not just for their customers, but for their employees. These organizations don’t just create jobs; they attract talented people looking for vocations where they can find greater meaning in their work.

Google’s culture pushes their employees toward self-actualization. They maintain values like, “It’s best to do one thing really, really well,” and “Great just isn’t good enough.” One way they support this value is through their Search Inside Yourself program that teaches employees how to meditate to gain better focus and improve their emotional intelligence.

Calm is a Superpower

NorthBaybiz: Guest Column, September 2022

In today’s intense and busy world, calm is a rare state of being. We don’t often think about it; it’s not an attribute we frequently strive to cultivate. However, the “state of calm” is under-recognized as an indispensable superpower—and it deserves our attention. Cultivating a state of calm within can enhance your career, your personal life, and even help you choose reason over panic in a crisis.

Calm in a crisis
The presence of calm was most evident in the striking example of US Airways Flight 1549.
On Jan. 15, 2009, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger lost thrust in both engines. In the dead of winter, the former Air Force fighter pilot made a calculated choice to land the Airbus A320 (weighing more than 82,000 pounds) onto the icy waters of the Hudson River. Without hesitation, Captain Sullenberger trusted his decades of experience as a seasoned pilot, combined with a deep
“inner-knowing.” Pilots describe this rare combination as “deliberate calm.”
Inner-knowing is similar to a gut instinct or strong intuition. However, inner-knowing comes from a higher place within—divine certainty.
