The truth is that you can’t effectively support higher needs in others if you’re not first satisfying them in yourself. —The Cult Branding Company

This month we are pleased to share highlights from a timeless business article we found posted back in 2017 by The Cult Branding Company on personal growth, performance, and self-actualization. This short read is full of wisdom for those who want to advance in the workplace.

Article excerpt: The Cult Branding Company

Maslow’s Simple Secret for High Performing Business

"
Successful businesses like Southwest, Google, Zappos, The Container Store, and Netflix tap into basic and higher needs not just for their customers, but for their employees. These organizations don’t just create jobs; they attract talented people looking for vocations where they can find greater meaning in their work.

Google’s culture pushes their employees toward self-actualization. They maintain values like, “It’s best to do one thing really, really well,” and “Great just isn’t good enough.” One way they support this value is through their Search Inside Yourself program that teaches employees how to meditate to gain better focus and improve their emotional intelligence.

Jump into the ocean of being authentic

People on the self-actualization path know ‘the best-kept secret’ - and they live it in their everyday life. Now, many of them want to share this adventure of personal empowerment with others.

A fresh approach to self-empowerment

Millions are yearning for the ultimate secret in life. Some spend thousands of dollars on pricey seminars and trainings, to gain this competitive edge. Others blindly follow self-appointed experts, just to get a glimpse through someone else’s experience. It takes a shift in perspective.

The most important thing in life is to be true to ourselves, to never give up attempting to become the very finest version of what we wish to be, no matter how arduous that proves to be." - Kilroy J. Oldster
Written by Lorraine Alexander, October 2017
If you've ever worked on a project as a collaborative team member, you know from firsthand experience, that when the team dynamics work, there is nothing sweeter; conversely, nothing is more challenging or draining than a team out-of-sync. How can companies and organizations facilitate a team culture of cooperation, flexibility, and a positive spirit?

How Meditation Programs Launch Winning Teams

As a first step, some experts might suggest analyzing the corporate culture or group dynamics. Although this is the most obvious starting place, to create a winning team, we need to dive far deeper.  Each team member should take a personal inventory; first by taking a good look at their motives and intentions, and secondly, whether they are committed to the success of the group as a whole. To achieve this deep level of commitment, each individual needs to understand self-actualization and the basic hierarchy of personal growth.

As Americans, we've been fed the typical model of success - it all seems like the perfect plan for a deeply satisfying life. Then why do so many highly successful people approach the later part of life unhappy - feeling as though something significant was (and is) missing?

Revisiting Abraham Maslow

While studying psychology in graduate school at Duquesne University, I was introduced to Abraham Maslow's work and read parts of his groundbreaking book, Motivation and Personality. His extensive studies show that people who do not fully use their potential, are not truly happy in life.
