People on the self-actualization path know ‘the best-kept secret’ - and they live it in their everyday life. Now, many of them want to share this adventure of personal empowerment with others.
A fresh approach to self-empowerment
Millions are yearning for the ultimate secret in life. Some spend thousands of dollars on pricey seminars and trainings, to gain this competitive edge. Others blindly follow self-appointed experts, just to get a glimpse through someone else’s experience. The truth is there are some ‘rare birds’ that know where the real deal and personal power can be found - and how to access it. It's different than what most of us have been taught. It takes a shift in perspective.
Living life from the inside out
Steve Jobs was very successful with his "coming from the inside-out" business philosophy. Many who want business success like his, are now meditating in droves. This technique gives them access to their center of creativity. They know that if they want to develop something in the realm of genius, they have to go within to find it.
Jobs said “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
Now, I am going to tell you more about ‘the best-kept secret.' These insights may or may not mean anything to you, but read on. Hopefully, these truths will be of significant value.
Self-Actualization
World-famous psychologist, Abraham Maslow once said: “We can never be happy unless we rise and become all that we are meant to be.” This personal growth has been defined as self-actualization, or as a heightened state of awareness. The term self-actualization was introduced originally by the organismic theorist Kurt Goldstein for the motive to realize one's full potential.
In essence, we all have one basic need; we all want to be happy. People on the self-actualization path, for the most part, are free and happy. Usually, they are the creative and successful ones in the workplace; and they often have deep and meaningful relationships. Why aren’t we all self-actualized or at least working toward that goal?
On the plus side, people have a constant yearning to be real, to be authentic, and to be their best selves. Going back to the child’s story Pinocchio, his whole life was about his yearning to be a Real Boy and to be free from the restrictions of being a puppet. Even with the help of the blue fairy, it was a challenging task. In the end, Pinocchio learned that the secret of becoming a Real Boy was actually very simple, he needed to cultivate himself from within.
Bruce Lee, the actor, martial artist, philosopher, filmmaker, was also dedicated to self-actualization. He had a deep understanding of both the rewards and obstacles of self-actualization. The following quote is his observation of what many people have been taught since early childhood; this may give us insight as to why self-actualization work can be challenging.
"We have more faith in what we imitate than in what we originate. We cannot derive a sense of absolute certitude from anything that has its roots in us. The most poignant sense of insecurity comes from standing alone; we are not alone when we imitate. It is thus with most of us! We are what other people say we are. We know ourselves chiefly by hearsay." ~ Bruce Lee
Finding your inner voice
I believe Bruce Lee is saying people are not comfortable being natural or authentic in the true sense of the word until self-actualization is attained. It is similar to what Steve Jobs told us “Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.”
An actualized person is in touch with his inner voice. An actualized person can stand alone, and be perfectly at ease in doing so. They do not experience limitations in life in the same way as others do. Instead, they see the future as open and bright. Because of this, they are happier, and they live fuller, more rewarding lives.
Moving toward self-actualization may seem insurmountable, but a commitment to personal growth, combined with the regular practice of a profound and deep meditation technique, can fast track this process in an upward direction.
DASA Meditation is one type of meditation designed to do exactly that. The name DASA stands for Developing Awareness through Self-Actualization (DASA). This style of meditation can accelerate the process of self-awareness, self-actualization, and beyond. Beyond sounds intriguing...but that will be addressed in a future article.
