Who we spend time with matters. Our daily habits are strongly influenced by the people we surround ourselves with. We don’t usually choose our friends for their positive lifestyle habits. However, this bit of information may get you thinking. Behavioral science shows that the five people we spend the most time with can affect our daily habits (for better or worse), a strong indicator of our happiness, health, and well-being.
Friends, family, and coworkers play a critical role in how we see ourselves, our life choices, and even life satisfaction. The bottom line is we naturally gravitate toward and repeat habits that are most familiar to us.
Time to raise the bar.
Similarly, mind-body practices like daily meditation can be a powerful positive influencer. Non-directive meditation sets the tone and helps us naturally navigate toward healthier lifestyle choices. This particular type of meditation activates six brain regions simultaneously (known as the default mode network). Accumulated stress releases from the body, and our innate inner wisdom emerges. We are less driven by others, more self-aware, and aligned with the needs of our body, mind, and spirit. This wisdom guides each choice while collectively defining a healthier lifestyle and a peaceful mind. Only then can we experience a state of flow and synchronicity.
